SENIORS’ CRUISE CONTINUES

JUNE 10, 2008

Sarnia, Ontario has had Seniors’ Cruises on Duc D'Orleans for more than 25 years.

Initially Peter Henderson got Jacques Beauchamp and Mary Mathers to help him organize the first cruise. He wanted people in the area to be able to enjoy the waterfront as much as those with private watercraft could.

No one needed their names out front as the ‘Seniors’ were to be the focus of the day. Those who have contributed through the years have done it for the sake of giving enjoyment to the participants. ‘The cost, Peter would say, is ‘just a smile’.

When you see the faces of those coming from the trip, you know the effort is well worth it. As many as 2000 people have enjoyed this event in one day.

Jacques provided the boat, and Mary set out to feed everyone. She went to service dubs, individuals and businesses alike. Cab companies donated pickles, service clubs donated fresh veggies, fruit and sandwiches, and everyone Mary and Peter contacted contributed something. Local restaurants provided their specialities, too.

If you would like to help out, please take your contribution to the Legion-designated for the Seniors’ Cruise, June 10, 2008 or show up anytime after 8 a.m. for ‘an assignment’. If you wish to contribute to the Cruise,

call (519) 344-9518 for a pick-up.

Cruises start at 9 am, and go until everyone’s had a ride. Rain or shine.
